For a new greenhouse horticulture area in the municipality of Lansingerland (the Netherlands) Aqua-Terra Nova has developed the innovative 'AquaReUse'-concept. This concept uses waste water for the production of clean irrigation water for greenhouse horticulture. The objectives of the concept are

1. Guaranteed clean irrigation water quality

2 High delivery security

3 Competitive price

The produced pour water is intended as an addition to the used individual rain water installations of the horticulture companies. This collective concept offers an alternative to the wide-spread use of groundwater in horticulture areas and limits the recharge of deep groundwater layers with the salt rest-product of reversed osmosis.

The concept is now currently in the phase of realization. The realization is under direction of a management team consisting of all concerned parties (public and private).

Project area

The Overbuurtse Polder (municipality of Lansingerland, the Netherlands) has developed an area of 100 hectares for greenhouse horticulture in the last years within the Greenport Westland- Oosland vision. Currently an area of 85 hectares consist of modern, large scale greenhouses. This horticulture area also encompass the ‘street of knowledge’ which includes several testing stations of the Wageningen University and Research institute and the Improvement Centre. The Overbuurtsepolder is divided by the High Speed Railway and bordered by the highway A12 in the south.
